National Accounts Manager

Cross hands - Wales

Hybrid role - 2-3 days onsite

OCHO is excited to be partnering with a renowned name in the meat processing industry, who has a rich history of delivering top-quality meat products to various sectors of the food industry.

In an exciting period of growth Ocho has been appointed to help hire a number of National Account Managers . In these roles the successful candidate will be responsible for establishing strong key customer relationships to ensure sales and profitability targets are met. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager this position will play an integral part developing existing and future sales within the company.  

The Role:

Cultivate a strong, integrated relationship with a key retail customer and their associated departments, including regular visits to the customer's head office.

Collaborate with the NPD (New Product Development) department to foster innovative ideas that capitalize on new market opportunities.

Take charge of planning and executing all relevant plans and promotional activities for the customer.

Supervise the arrangements for setting up new product launches, ensuring that all components are in order well in advance of the first production run.

Generate weekly forecast-versus-actual reports for internal stakeholders.

Negotiate pricing and disseminate it to both internal and external parties.

Conduct range reviews and provide a comprehensive range analysis to enhance departmental sales.

Collaborate within a cross-functional team, coordinating category plans and liaising with category/marketing, product development, supply chain, and technical teams.


Deliver weekly reports to the customer detailing week-to-date sales and additional opportunities.

Perform weekly benchmarking activities and conduct a monthly gap analysis to enhance the product range.

Gain a deep understanding of the category and its current market position in comparison to other retailers and discounters.

Fulfill any other ad hoc requests from internal stakeholders.

Ideal candidate

A FMCG background in food, ideally meat

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

Industry Experience: Ideally a strong background in the meat processing industry, particularly in beef and lamb, with a deep understanding of the market dynamics, customer preferences, and industry trends.

Sales and Account Management: Proven experience in national account management and sales, preferably in dealing with key retail customers. The candidate should have a track record of successfully managing and growing customer relationships.

Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills to effectively work with customers on pricing, contracts, and other terms while ensuring a win-win for both parties.

Innovation: An ability to work closely with the New Product Development (NPD) department to develop innovative product ideas and strategies to capitalize on market opportunities.

Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and market research to make informed decisions, conduct range reviews, and provide actionable insights to improve sales and product offerings.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience working in cross-functional teams, collaborating with departments like marketing, product development, supply chain, and technical to meet customer needs and align with company objectives.

Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey proposals, reports, and information to internal and external stakeholders.

Strategic Thinking: The ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans to maximize the potential of national accounts and drive business growth.

Customer Focus: A customer-centric approach, focusing on building strong relationships and understanding customer requirements to provide tailored solutions.

Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing market conditions and customer demands.

Results-Oriented: A proven track record of achieving sales targets and delivering results in a competitive market.

Bachelor's Degree: Typically, a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is preferred, although relevant work experience can compensate for formal education.

Team Player: A collaborative and team-oriented mindset to work effectively within the company's culture.

Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and address challenges as they arise.

Leadership Potential: Depending on the role, leadership skills may be necessary to manage a team of account managers or assistants.

Salary/ Benefits 

  • Salary : up to £50k base
  • Bonus : up to 20%
  • Car allowance 5-6k
